2018 EDITION 43 A sk Taylorsville, North Carolina, native Lauren Mays and she'll assure you chivalry is far from dead. For proof, she points to her now-husband, Trey Carter, who pulled out all the gallant stops during the couple's first date in the fall of 2015. "He was the Southern gentleman I had read about in books," she laughs. And nowhere was that more apparent than on one June day in 2016, when Lauren returned home after a morning of running errands to find their pup, Max, in a new Tiffany blue collar. She took a close look at its embroidered message–"Will you marry me?"–and was shocked to find a diamond ring dangling in place of a dog tag. Clearly flair is in their relationship DNA, so the pair agreed North Carolina's most dramatic, storybook estate (Biltmore, of course) was the place for their vows. Add that they love the colors of autumn, and they picked a woodsy site on a hill overlooking the mansion with a statue of Diana (for which the location is named). Next, they enlisted Sarah Elizabeth Events to bring Lauren's floral-heavy Pinterest boards to lush life. Just before sunset on a crisp, sunny day in October, the duo swapped vows amidst the five Fs—family, friends, flowers, and fall foliage. Afterward, everyone retreated to an opulent tent overflowing with stunning arrangements and gilded china. And at the end of the festivities, when all was said and done, Lauren only had one unfulfilled wish: "Never wanting the night to end!" she says. —Molly Ramsey T i p Up the romance factor of your ensemble with an oversized, cascading bouquet. For bride Lauren's stunner, florist Springvine Design used garden roses, chocolate cosmos, jasmine, scabiosa, and greens.
